Road to Rio 2016! (Women)

Host nation Brazil and 2014 FIBA Women’s World Championship winners USA will be joined in the 12-team field by the winners of the 2015 women’s continental championships - Senegal (Africa), Canada (Americas), Japan (Asia), Serbia (Europe) and Australia (Oceania).

The remaining five places will be taken much closer to the event, via the tension and excitement of the 2016 FIBA Women’s Qualifying Tournament (WOQT) which offers 12 teams the chance to realise their Olympic dreams.

The twelve (12) women’s teams that fell short of qualifying directly for Rio 2016 but that will have another shot at fulfilling their Olympic aspirations via the WOQT that will take place from 13-19 June 2016 are:

Africa: Cameroon, Nigeria Americas: Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela Asia: China, Korea Europe: France, Spain, Belarus, Turkey Oceania: New Zealand The top five teams will earn berths for the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament.
