Work, Sleep, Family, Fitness, or Friends-Pick 3

So I have a cousin in the advertising industry who is absolutely brilliant, but also a workaholic, and he recently put up a Facebook post that caught my attention titled: Work, Sleep, Family, Fitness, or Friends- Pick 3 [Apparently as a successful person in life you can only pick 3]. I see the challenge…BUT I refuse to believe that we can only have 3. It’s all about thinking outside the box, a little luck, and a lot of blessings.

From my personal experience, I’m blessed with a job that I love and allows me to be flexible with my hours without compromising on my productivity. I’m also lucky in that I have colleagues who are my friends and work in an industry (sports) where I have most of my friends. Family has always been a priority for me so hanging out with the king (my husband) and visiting family is what I mostly do over the weekends and I try and get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep every night. I’m mostly successful if I get in to bed around 10pm and if I manage to fight the urge to catch up on How To Get Away with Murder.

The trickiest one is probably Fitness to be honest. It’s hard to find time to go to the gym or hoop with my friends and still nail the other 4. This is where I had to think outside the box. It takes a total of 4 hours of my day to commute to and from the office thanks to the madness of traffic in Nairobi so I figured that would be where I’d have to change things around. Solution? Cycle To Work! Yes it’s a bit like an action movie having to dodge motorcyclists, pedestrians, chickens, cars, and the occasional goat but what’s life without a bit of adventure?
